12-18-08: Why yes, I do like Photography

Back on September 13th Hurricane Ike hit as we all know, and it sucked major... you know. Having just got a new camera a short time prior in August, I of course took this opportunity to keep myself busy by joyriding around town and taking pics of everything I could. And then I proceeded to procrastinate on uploading them and making an album page for 3 months. Um, yeah. But ironically, i'm here the last week before Christmas spending an entire evening putting these pics up now. I guess things can't be TOO busy then. :p

Also, while i'm at it, on the 10th of this month I saw pigs fly, people become monkey's uncles, and reports of Satan calling in sick with a cold. It actually snowed here in this tiny little piece of east Texas, and I sure as hell wasn't about to pass up the opprtunity to catalogue it as extensively as possible in an effort to keep the moment forever. That too has been uploaded, and you may view both albums at the Hurricane Ike and Snow Day pages respectively. And now I hit the bed at last. Goodnight everybody, and Merry Christmas!

10-29-08: Elegy for Fallen Friends and the Return of a Legend

Last week it came to my attention that a very important day was approaching. On October 29, 2007, Chris O'neill passed on, taking with him among many things a professional grade programming talent, a drive to spread the awareness of AIDS through the internet, and a humanitarian effort that not everyone knew about to help others in time of need through annonymous donated site work. For example, in 2005 when the big hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit, he was secretly working on a special information website to help others contact their families. It doesn't seem like so much time has already passed. Heck, it doesn't seem like so much time has already passed since the last time I updated this site, much less with content. So in memoriam of this day, I have finally resumed Shadow of an Unknown Legend after two and a half years of inactivity. Chris always used to support my effort to practice writing, and helped encourage me to go on with it whenever I hit writer's block (which was in fact the cause for my dropping this for so long). Now however, I am finally free of that, and so here it is, Chapter VII: The Battle of Triangle Island.

5-1-08:
I'm back!

See above :p

4-24-07: Why notepad was invented.

Let it be known that I have the world's worst luck with passwords, and no one can possibly top it. No you can't. I don't care what you said, you do not have worse luck. Have you ever accidently barred yourself from your own site for 5 months because of a misplaced password? :p Because of the um, nature of the lost password, i'm not going into detail how I found it again, except to say that sometimes the password is not what you thought it was, rather it was what you didn't think it could be. As punishment for my fubar, gaze upon this relic of my past, drawn shortly after the game came out. Ah, the awesome days of Yoshi's Island...

And because FF VI A is the sliced bread upon which my RPGaming life is based, I feel compelled to tell you that almost 3 months later, I still have trouble believing sometimes that it's really here. It was the same with FFV A too, only then I was more amazed that it finally had a translation that was:

1: readable without reflexive bursts of laughter arrrrrrrr!
2: 100% Socklet free. They really hit the weakpoint for massive damage. The other versions of both have just been served with cheese biscuits, AND mashed potatoes!

Lastly on those two, the music rocks, and I don't care what you think. Thank you. And now, back to Super Paper Mario. Hahahaha, Bleck!

8-21-06: *Plays a Song For the King of Kings to Celebrate*
Holy hell. Um, yeah, 5 months has moved fast since I started my new job. The second largest factor has to too with the massive addition to my gamelist as you can see. Ah, portable Tales on PSP...
I dedicate today to Chris, who without him... my life would be considerably more boring, along with Sky Render's who are two of the most awesome people I have ever known. Everyone consider Chris tonight as he now endures the most unenviable tasks of trying to actually set up the thing, along with the 10,000 cables which are required to connect everything else together. See you in a few days then Chris :p
As for me, yeah, i've just been continuing the neverending task of trying to get through my backlog while balancing a job before all of the new Square Enix games at the end of the year bury me underneath their game cases. Once those all arrive, I don't know if anyone will ever see me again ;)
Currently playing: Arc the Lad: Twilight of the spirits. Currently listening to: Final Fantasy XII OST (Makes me wonder if I ever need another OST again)
3-24-06: Welcome to Phantasia Knights' Domain... for real :p
Well i've finally got what i've always wanted, my own URL. And thanks to ChrisRPG, i'm now on the RPGOne server, which is also providing me with my own RPGOne email, phantasiaknights@rpgone.net , which will be used for both RPGOne related things, and for getting comments on the site, assuming there actually are any of course :p
As I needed something special for today, Chapter VI of Shadow of an Unknown Legend is now availible. I would have actually had this up sooner, as it has been nearly finished for, like, the last couple of weeks month, but...
1: I wanted to have something to celebrate the move.
2: Because DQ VIII had control of Sky Render's brain, but that was a given.
I finally went back and got to level 65, thus learning Dragon Soul and being able to complete the last of the Dragovian Trials, which were a bitch, with me getting beat to within an inch of my life by the Ultimate Dragon. Many times. Needless to say, Yangus's Kerplunk saved my ass more times than I care to admit, and it took both of my monster teams and two Elfin Elixers to be able to take down the thing. It took me 3 days to get from level 50 to 65, thanks in part to getting really lucky with some Metal King Slime kills, without either Executioner, or Lightning Thrust I might add. Altogether, I managed to reduce to MKS overpopulation by a whopping 19. Draining as you can imagine. Shortly after of course, I went back and completed the bestiary and got the Gospel Ring. No way I was going to try to collect all of the overworld and dungeon treasures I missed while getting nagged to recast Holy Protection every two steps. Also, Barumen's Bell made this so much easier. Can you tell I loved this game? Now to get Suikoden V, and maybe complete the other half dozen games i'm in the middle of currently. I need an Epoch.
By the way, the paragraph that has accidently not been reinserted into the new editon of Chapter 5 of SoaUL has now been restored. Life can now go on again :)
Other things on the list include, minor tweaks to various pages, the About Page is updated (for the 2 people who check it :p) along with the Links, and I have added retranslated track lists from Sky Render for several popular videogame OSTs. Some of them you will wonder how they were changed to other versions you've seen on the net.
1-18-06: Hmm... Needs A Pinch More Evil.
With todays' release of Shadow of an Unknown Legend: Chapter V, comes the announcement that from now on, SoaUL will be a joint project between Sky Render and I. I'll be in charge of writing the story and a rough draft of every chapter as before, but he will be the one to give it life and flavor. Because his writing style is so much different than what I can accomplish, he has also re-wrote the first four chapters to match the new style. I hope you enjoy it, because in my opinion it adds a lot more fun and feel to everything, esspecially some scenes which I felt were a bit lacking before. Knowing that I have someone who's a big fan of this story has also increased my motivation and enjoyment for writing it again, and I already have the next several chapters planned out. It's definitely going to be surprising, with a few rather sweet twists if I do say so myself. Also, i've moved the link with the story to the index page, since it's the only Fan-Fiction i'm writing, and it looks silly for it to be on a seperate page because of that. Lastly, you'll notice that the story has gotten a face lift, and looks more professional now. Thanks for reading!
And now a word from my lackey er... Editor *Yeah, that's the ticket* It is a great honor I've been given that I can work with Phantasia on this story. His amazing vision of how Shadow's past life may well have played out has compelled me from the start, and I've always wanted to be able to do it justice with my own writing. And now, thanks to his open-mindedness, I have been given just that chance.
1-17-06: *Slaps Head, Feels Stupid Part 2*
If you read the updated that was posted Saturday, you may have seen me mention Open Office, an editor which functions almost exactly like Microsoft Office. I said that it functions great, which it did for the most part, until I tried editing a page with pictures. The thing is, it doesn't handle them very well. If you for example copy and paste a picture from a picture editing program into it, it causes rather annoying spacing problems which seem to break the page it's pasted into. Unfortunately, this page was SoaUL, my fan-fic, so it was especially troubling. I suppose it's taught me that I should have continued to practice improving good old fashioned HTML instead of taking the easy way out, because the code... well, it doesn't look very good either. If anyone who works on Open Office reads this, I hope you take these things into consideration. Because it's a great program on it's own, it's just not good to edit web pages with pictures in and needs to generate better code. Sorry. This also means of course that I have reuploaded the pre-Open Office Version of the site.
In better news, Chapter V of SoaUL is finished, and when it is posted it'll come with a big surprise. I know it's certainly been long enough coming :p
1-3-06: Foamy's Rant: RPGOne Edition
Dear Neo-Yuppie Government Scumbag,
Please stop fucking with me. My friend has medical problems, and is not in the mood for your "I'm too lazy to accept taxes filed 15 days earlier because if I don't need to do it now I won't." bullshit. All this stress is freaking him out, and if it persists will only make him need more medication, which will mean he will then need more government money, and you will still lose. So why don't you just take your laziness, shove some Speed up your ass, and get the hell to work, before I have to choke you with your computer mouse.
Sincerely yours,
Your Lord and Master - Foamy the Squirrel
12-3-05: I'm Aware, No Really.
Let me tell you about the time I almost died. No, not when Hurricane Rita knocked out the power to my house for week, leaving us to bake in humid 90 degree temperatures, nor the subsequent death of my monitor, leaving me without one for 2 weeks, i'm talking about Dragon Quest VII, and the wonderful challenge it holds in wiping out half of my party in two attacks. Spoiler free unless you count the boss name.
Against trap box. Since there's no shortcut from the beginning of the dungeon to the end like the others, I was fairly low on MP by the time I got to him. Part of the way through he takes out Yangus, and then Hero with a critical hit, leaving just Jessica and Angelo with extremely low MP. Finally, I have no MP left to cast spells with, so all I can do is physically attack as the Kabuff spells I cast earlier do their best to blunt some of the damage. But then they wear off, and I'm on edge fearing i'll have to reset and do that entire dungeon again. Finally, with Angelo under 50 HP and Jessica under 30, he's down, and I have only 2 MP left on Jessica to cast Evac with, and 1 MP left on Angelo to cast Zoom with. If I had used one more spell I wouldn't have been able to escape. COR BLIMEY! Following that, I was momentarily in shock, unable to believe just how close I came to being wiped out.
Also on games I have played, We Love Katamari. I know I do, and if you want to ever enjoy the original KD at all, PLAY IT FIRST. Once you experience the sequel, with it's better, more detailed playing fields, bigger sense of humor, arguably better songs (you can select the songs that play in each level now), and a certain set of surprise roll-ups in the "roll the world" level, along with the ability to roll up cousins and play as them in the main levels, you will never be able to enjoy the original KD again by comparison. It's just that good. Just make sure you bring patience on the level select screen, the aggravating voices of people screaming at you will annoy you fast. Also, once again the credits level is interactive, though I won't spoil what happens in it, just make sure you're good at dodging.
Once Final Fantasy IV Advance comes out, I expect I'll disappear yet again. 58 combined floors of hell along with the ability to change your party members at anytime is impossible for me to resist, especially considering FF IV is my second favorite FF, and one of my favorite games of all time as such. Trips will never be boring again. Only one more week...
10-5-05: Stop Looking At Me Like That.

9-20-05: Revolution: Controller Confusion or Sexual Protrusion?
This is all I have to say on THAT subject. In other news, Radiata Stories rocks, but hopefully you knew that. Also, Naaa, na na na na na na na, na na na na na naaa.
5-30-05: Triple Trouble.
Dark Cloud 2, Dewprism, and The Minish Cap are fun. Did you know that? Even more fun is playing through all 3 of them at the same time like I am. Love me, pity me :p
5-23-05: Darth Vader and the E3 Caper.
Well Star Wars is now officially over. Fortunately it managed to go out with a bang, as Anakin managed to be more sinister than I could have thought given previous movies. However, I'll still admit that he's a pretty whiny wanker to the end. At least the scene where he... heh, well you know. Anyway, now that E3 is over, I've decided that the RPG I'm looking forward to the most is Dragon Quest VIII, followed by Radiata Stories. It's going to be a good year for RPG fans like me. By the way, for those looking forward to Final Fantasy VII, Advent Children, Square has officially ruined everything by handing it to 4kids to write the US version, the same group that ruined everything else it ever touched. To quote myself in a recent MIRC chat:
"Yeah, everybody knows 4Kids is made up of the elite old grannies from the Soccer Mom Coalition.
Intelligence says that in order to completely ruin anything that might even slightly remain after 4kids is done with it, they actually have a baby eat it, wait for evacuation, burn the "poop", have angry monkeys toss it around for a while, flush it, and then feed it to roaches from the sewers of nuclear reactors.
Only when it's as far less accurate than the Japanese version as it is from Earth to the end of the universe, is it sutable for viewing inside the womb."
Lastly, please note that old blogs have been moved to a separate page in order to reduce clutter, and certain code and stuff around the site has been cleaned up and reorganized for your protection. Have a nice day, you spoony bard!
UPDATE:Apparently, it's not actually 4Kids who is handling the translation, but rather a subsidiary. This was confirmed by a friend of mine who actually went to E3 and found out. Whether or not this is good or bad news will have to be seen. Also, just for kicks, my E3 wishlist games have been added to my Game List.
5-14-05: Dark Threads of the Katamari Cloud Damacy Fate 2 (With Turbo!).
So, today I finally beat Katamari Damacy (Make a Star 7 game me fits for a long time), and ordered both Dark Cloud 2 and Threads of Fate new for $57.10. Not a bad haul if I do say so myself. Both games have been on my list for a long time, yet for some reason or another have flew completely under my radar, although I have the ToF demo disk and spent a long time replaying it for awhile. Both games seem to be fun, funny, and have great game play, so I'm looking forward to them, and to the amount of time they will consume :p
5-7-05: Blitzed off!
So, quick recap of the last month. I got a memory card for my birthday, and promptly wiped the floor with Final Fantasy X in only 5 days. I then whipped the arse of CastleVania: Lament of Innocence (Leon's Theme rocks), and bought and spent a lot of time watching and re-watching Spaceballs: Collectors Edition ("I'm surrounded by Assholes!" One of the funniest moments and movies of all time). Also, 3 days ago I finally got a job, and pre-ordered Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana which looks to be one of the most refreshing games to come along in a long time (no overly angsty stories here!) and also wound up receiving the soundtrack as a bonus, which I'll get when the game ships (May 25th). Anyway, later today I'll be updating the Links page and the Game List, and maybe a couple of other things (although those wouldn't be today). Hail Skroob!
4-10-05: Katamari Psychoshi.
I'm aware Psychoshi isn't a real word. But the fact that something so simple is so fun is psycho. I got my PS2 several days ago, and the first thing I did was pop in Katamari Damacy and play all the way up to Make a Star 4, which has my currently favorite song in the soundtrack. That level is rather hard, so I had to stop there, since I don't have a memory card right now anyway :p A couple of updates today, one being the About page (possibly the most random thing on the site), and links to sites that rock (not yet complete). Sending things to Earth...
3-26-05: Final Fantasy VI x2.
Yeah, funny story. My friend Brandon, who also has his own site, "Nym Net", is obsessed with having games in perfect condition, or at least as perfect condition as possible. Case in point, he recently spent over $350 in order to win a sealed copy of Valkyrie Profile, which he did. It was with much pain that he finally brought himself to open it, because as he said, it meant there would be one less sealed copy of it in the world. Anyway, he recently won a near perfect condition copy of Final Fantasy VI on Ebay. The thing is, he already had another boxed copy of it in slightly less better condition from before. So guess what i've got now :p I've always wanted a complete boxed copy of FF VI, and now I've finally got one, with the players guide to boot :D The only thing that could rock more would be if it was the Japanese version.
3-22-05: What a bunch of boobs.
I'm glad to have a web master with a good sense of humor, as it would make me sad if I couldn't share "this" with you. Yes it's exactly what it looks like, and yes you do drink from THERE. It was found during a cleaning of the house a few days back, and it belonged to my grandma before she died in 1996, who I in part tribute my warped sense of humor to :p Dad thought it had been thrown out a long time ago, but apparently not, much to my delight as it's now mine.
3-5-05: I feel like I'm surrounded by troglodytes.
Some have said I've jumped the gun by buying 4 PS2 games before I even own the system. That's probably true, but I know I'll be having the time of my life come my birthday when I get my PS2, so who cares? :) Anyway, awhile back I thought about posting my experiences in learning HTML, which was hinted at before. The only reason I put it off so long was the fear of formatting the bastard for the site, which turned out to not really be possible. So in the end, I really just wasted my time and posted it as plan text :p So anyway, I'd like to finally share with you HTML for Dummies, or An Example of Why Not to Code Past 10PM, which should be viewed with word-wrap on.
2-13-05: Presenting Final Fantasy VI: Shadow of an Unknown Legend.
At last, my ongoing project is ready for posting! It's the story of FF VI from Shadow's perspective. From before the game starts, until the final battle with Cefca. I hope you enjoy it very much. This will be updated continuously.
2-9-05: "Umaro Not Like Chili!"
It figures huh? Every site tries to avoid posting about it yet again, but absolutely no-one can ignore the call of the wild... One of the things I'll be doing from now on is posting editorials of random things (mostly conversations) that I think would be fun to share with everyone. This is my first, and another one is scheduled to go up during the next couple of days. Have fun! And no, this is not the ongoing project. I promise ;)
2-8-05: Maybe if we sneak away now captain, we won't be Sephiroth'd...
Heh, it looks like Sky surprised me a bit early and linked to this. Please read the above, and I hope you enjoy what's here.
During the next couple of days I'll be fleshing out this site and posting a big launch surprise in the form of an ongoing project. It's something I've been working on off and on for a few years now, and i'm so happy to finally be able to post it on the net. I can't wait! ;p
While I'm sitting here rambling, I might as well make mention of this. If you're a fan of Xenogears' music, game music, or pianos in general, you'll nearly die of happiness like I did. But be sure to act fast, there's only a few copies left, and once they're gone, this album will never be printed again. I've already got mine ;)
